Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Theatre Prospero provides professional performances of classical theatre and artist-in-residence programs for schools across Alberta, offering students opportunities to act in great plays with professional mentorship. We also offer student matinees and public performances of these plays and others we produce professionally in Edmonton.
Established in 1996, Theatre Prospero’s works primarily on the plays of William Shakespeare, and other world classics, including Greek plays and adaptations of great writers like Charles Dickens or Dylan Thomas’. It has also created new Canadian plays – The Maggie Now Trilogy, Blood Opera: The Raven Tango Poems, Finn MacCool and the Salmon of Wisdom. For November 2017, we have commissioned an aboriginal adaptation of Macbeth which we will be co-producing with Akpik Theatre of Yellowknife.
Pawakan Macbeth, is an adaptation by indigenous playwright Reneltta Arluk of Shakespeare’s play Macbeth using Cree history, cosmology and stories. To learn more about it, click here.
Theatre Prospero tours across Alberta and into neighbouring provinces. Our Artist-In-Residence program offers school a variety of multi-day residencies for students in kindergarten through to grade 12.
